Must-Do Things When Your Family Visits Chambana

Must-Do Things When Your Family Visits Chambana Last weekend, both of my brothers decided to visit the U of I. Were identical triplets, and rarely spent time apart from each other before collegeâ€"needless to say, I was extremely excited. Since Im from the other side of the world, my brothers Jefferson (a History major at the University of Wisconsinâ€"Madison) and Hamilton (a Film major at Vanderbilt University) were the first faces from home Id seen in a long time. I wanted to make the most out of this weekend and ensure that my brothers would have a blast, too. Unfortunately, the weather wasnt great, so we didnt get the opportunity to get any good photos of us three. Nonetheless, we still did a lot of thingsâ€"you can do them too, when your family visits! Visit iconic locations on campus. Our campus is home to gorgeous pieces of architecture and wonderful bits of sceneryâ€"show them off! Here are the places I took my brothers to see: 1. Alma Mater Jefferson, one of my brothers, posing with Alma. One of our first stops was Almaâ€"its probably the most iconic statue on campus, and I wanted my brothers to see it. If your family visits on a special occasion, Alma could even be dressed up! 2. Altgeld Hall Image Credit: Illinois MakerLab. Home to the Department of Mathematics, Altgeld is my hands-down favorite building on campus. If youre lucky, you might even hear the bells play a familiar tune! 3. Japan House Image Credit: Japan House Gardens. Although its a little far, the Japan House and its gardens are absolutely gorgeous. I didnt go there with my brothers, but would definitely recommend it if youre just looking for a place to walk around with your family! Eat at one of the great restaurants in Champaign. There are endless possibilities if you want to find a good place to eat, but my personal favorite is The Hub. Image Credit: The Hub Champaign. The Hub is a new restaurant and bar on First and Green, and my favorite place to go for brunch. They offer great deals on food, especially when theres a Bears or Illini game on. The Hub is usually pretty quiet on weekends, but can get pretty packed on special occasions like Dads Weekend. I took both my brothers here on their last dayâ€"we had a great meal and watched the first half of the Bears game before saying our goodbyes. Go to a sports game! Image Credit: The Champaign Room. If theres a game on, head over to Memorial Stadium or State Farm Center! Jefferson, a student at Wisconsin, was still sore about our homecoming victory, so we didnt talk about going to see a football game. Nonetheless, watching our Illini play is a great way to spend the day with your family. Illinois has a gorgeous campus, with tons of really cool stuff to do. My brothers both had a great time when they visited, and told me later they were really sad to leave. I enjoyed bringing them around Champaign tooâ€"walking around with them made me really proud of my school. Im going up to Madison to visit Jeff the weekend before Thanksgivingâ€"I know Ill have a great time, but Im sure their campus isnt as nice as ours! Franklin Class of 2022 I grew up in Hong Kong, China, and I’ve come across the world to Illinois to major in Astronomy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I’ve always thought outer space is super cool, and I love that I’m learning everything that I can about it at Illinois.

Educating Children And Our Elderly Population Essay

In the United States the children and our elderly population are most vulnerable. A need that needs to be addressed is that older adults have a lack of income. This mean that older adults do not have much money for food, because they have a harder time finding work that is not too labor intense. A program that I propose that would service our older population would be provided meals to older adults in the community. The goals and needs that my service program would satisfied would be food insecurity and the goal would be to increase socialization and promote community involvement. A Congregate meals site in the local community center would serve low income to no income older adults who have a need for food. Congregate meals would provide a good warm and nutritious meal and it would address the hunger and food insecurity that many older adults are facing in many poor communities. I did independent research on similar programs and services that were similar to my service program. The first Article that I read while doing research about my program was Delivering aging services: Stability and change in policies and programs. The article is about informing the elderly and their families about services that are available to them through the Older American Act (OAA). The article emphasizes that the Information, Referral and Assistance (IRA) programs was established to help family and elderly adults identify programs that would help them in their community and homes. The Sharing Research Data And Intellectual Property Law ...

Review and Reflection Paper in Reaction to: Sharing Research Data and Intellectual Property Law: A Primer, by Carroll MW (2015) Background Publishing research data in articles could make it available for public to access. In this article, the authors have discussed about sharing the research data by letting public access it leads to a challenge of reusing the data. There are various questions that might arise in the researchers’ minds including queries about the legal rights, the owner of the rights, and rights for permission to share the data that leads to productive utilization of the data. Introduction Any researcher seeking to use another’s data will be happy if the data is publicly available with reuse permission granted by the source of the data (the researcher or repository). However, it seems like that happiness may not persist long because there are possibilities that some third party might claim any intellectual property or other legal rights on the original data. Such lack of knowledge or legal uncertainty disturbs the use of published research data in a productive manner. I agree with the author that the law makes all these more complicated that it worth. The author mention that the source of all intellectual property rights is national law, firstly and then certain international treaties harmonize the intellectual property rights of an owner but not by country. For instance, the authors stated that the members of the European Union, have a specialized database

The Great City of Calicut Free Essays

The Great City of Calicut Located on the Malabar (southwestern) Coast of India was its port city of Calicut. Calicut, Kozhikode, was the capitol of a state which served as an important, if not the most important, state in the region in which it lay. Although Calicut lay on the coast, there was no place along its shore deep enough for ships to anchor. We will write a custom essay sample on The Great City of Calicut or any similar topic only for you Order Now Still, as early as the fourteenth century, Calicut conducted a considerable amount of trade. According to the primary sources of Ibn Battuta, Ma Huan, and an annonymous crew member of Vasco da Gama’ s, Calicut flourished as a center of trade because of their resources and trade systems, among other factors, making lasting impressions on these and other foreign visitors. In the account recorded in the Roteiro (Logbook), of Vasco da Gama’s anonymous crew member, various resources of Calicut were given. Calicut was a supplier and producer of several desired spices, including ginger, pepper, and the cinnamon-like spice, cassia. By the fifteenth century, Calicut had established a system for cultivating pepper. Among spices that were brought to Calicut and traded with other countries were cloves from the island of Melqua and true cinnamon from Cillion. In addition to their natural resources, the people of Calicut created and sold silk. Once the silk was acquired from the silkworm, it was boiled, dyed, then weaved into kerchiefs. Not only was Calicut admired for their resources, but Calicut established trade regulations among foreign countries that was both respected and appreciated. For example, Moroccan traveler-ambassador Ibn Battuta chronicled in his ribla (around 1356), book of travels, that when a ship wrecked along the Malabar Coast, all items from the ship were taken to the treasury. However, in Calicut, the owner of the wreckage was permitted to recollect his items. Merchants appreciated this, thus attracting further business. This policy was strategic of Calicut in that although they did not gain an immediate profit from the wrecked ships, long-term, trade efficiency increased, ultimately benefitting Calicut even more. In Chinese Muslim Ma Huan’s book, The Overall Survey of the Ocean’s Shores, published in 1451, he gives a detailed description of Calicut’s trading process. Once a vessel arrived in Calicut, two chiefs were appointed to it to oversee transactions. The king of Calicut sends a chief, an accountant, and a broker to inspect the accountant books. After a date is chosen to fix prices, the price of each good brought to trade to Calicut is fixed, a description, much like a receipt, is given to both parties. Next, the chief, the accountant, and the commander of the visiting ship all shake hands and agree to never retract or change the price fixed for the goods. Then the accountant and wealthy men bring riches to be assessed and priced. This process takes between one and three days. This description shows that because Calicut had such a high volume of trade, a system was developed and practiced to a â€Å"T† in order to maintain trade efficiency. This also assured that no one was cheated out of goods/money. According to the accounts of the above travelers, the development of Calicut was aided in part by their natural resources and trading systems and regulations. Chief among other factors as to why Calicut was so significant is that it served as a trading route, allowing duties to be paid to the Sultan. However, during these times, the state of Calicut was in religious divide. The king and the people were Hindu, while the chiefs were Muslim. Although the two religions respected each other, this divide may have been seen as weakness among foreigners, which may have ultimately contributed to the decline of Calicut. Trip To Mother Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church Essays

Trip To Mother Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church I thought the field trip to Mother Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church was a great experience. I enjoyed it a lot, infact, I am thinking about revisiting the church again. There were a lot of very interesting things about the church. For example, I did not know that Mother Bethel Methodist Church had so much history and significant facts that I needed to know. One fact that I did not know about is that Mother Bethel is the first African Methodist Episcopal Church in America. I think that is amazing considering the fact that back then, blacks were limited to freedom as well as education. Another fact that I learned was that Mother Bethel was the cite for the first national covention of Black people in the United States organized by Richard Allen. I also learned Mother Bethel was a station of the Underground Railroad during the 1800s. I was glad to learn about these interesting and historic facts because it is an important part of Black History. Unfortunately, I was not able to stay after service for a tour of the museum. That's why I do attend to go back to Mother Bethel Church to hear a another great message and learn more interesting facts and history about Mother Bethel. Music Essays
